Subway..

My family own a sandwich shop/cafe and when I was talking to the guy who supplies our cooked meats (we get 100 percent natural meats) he was telling me that subway buy the cheapest nastiest meat ever, just above the meat content that you would put in dog food I think he said, apparantly they work really tightly to margins...It has put me off going there again (not that I need to with a lovely sandwich shop in the family!)
I can well believe it, the meat products always look minging and the smell of them being nuked in the microwave is foul! I do go into Subway now and again and get a tuna sub but there is always too much mayo in them. Suppose in a way thats a good thing, at least it stops me going too often :rotfl:0 -
This may help a bit... retaileyes.co.uk often do mystery shops at subway, they reimburse you to have a sub of the day meal (and pay you 5 pounds fee which is treated as self employed earnings), so that would pay for a couple more subs! They only do the shops once a month though I think. If you have any tax questions about mystery shopping, PM me - I'm an accountant.0

I really like Subway - I have to say though, I usually buy a veggie one, so I guess the quality of the meat isn't a problem (trying to remember if I have ever had a meat one - not convinced I have) ... also, I can only get them when I'm away from home, so it's a not very often, and I love the fact that you can choose what to include cos I'm quite fussy - don't like tomato for instance...0

I make subs all the time although admittedly they arent too much like subway :rotfl:
I buy the part baked rolls (Asda have packs of 2 for 39p and they are about 9") and cook as directed. I add the fillings and pop back in the oven for a few more mins.
We have:
Meatballs & Cheese
Tuna
Sweet Chilli Chicken
Ham & Cheese
Chicken and Bacon Mayo (I dont put this one back in the oven)
Pretty much whatever you want you can throw in there. I usually add a bit of salad once out of the oven too:heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpulsTEAM YELLOWDFD 16/6/10"Shut your gob! Subway meats are actually very good. BIL often used to nick us the big bags of meats and they had all the ingrediants on the packet and I think the least we had was about 80% meat content.
Next time I see him I will ask if he knows what goes into the bread (not sure if its made from a packet mix or properly fresh onsite) and post back.Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -

i LOVE my subway - usually, since moving store the one nearby has really put me off, it just doesnt taste right it was quite tasteless i dont know why it should be the same ingrediants as up the road, very annoying though, its taken me years to perfect my sub now i cant have it anymore. and theyve put the prices up and i cant even complainYes Your Dukeiness0 -

Meat which is only 80% meat? What's the other 20% if not meatWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
Thanks for all the ideas, am going to try the part baked ones first and finish them at home.I would like to be able to admire a man’s opinions as I would his dog - without being expected to take it home with me."

It may well be 80% meat but that 80% could be composed entirely of ears, tongues and snouts0
