Who has your credit card numbers ?

Hi,

Not sure if this thread should be here or under consumer rights BUT I would like to know what your rights are regarding companies who retain your credit card number:

1. Sainsburys online shopping holds my cc number
2. I once ordered from "Bombay bicycle club" (indian takeaway) and the second time I ordered, the person on the call wanted to know if the last 4 digits of my card was xxxx

I am NOT happy with this, particularly the Bombay Bicycle club and would like to know if this is legal? or can I ask them to delete my cc number ?

Thanks!

Here's something to make you think:

If someone phones you asking for card details tell them where to get off. Never ever divulge details to anyone who contacts you.

Everything else I am afraid, i.e. who you give them to verbally when ordering via the phone, or via the internet etc is done on trust.

I couldn't give a damn who has my credit card number - it needs me to be negligent for me to care.

If someone commits fraud using my card, the banks lose. Shame that.

It is a flipping hassle sorting out the aftermath of a fraud, though.
