Hi - I also have a large sum of money in an A+L Direct Saver and have been dissapointed by the recent rate reduction. However instead of opening a new account elsewhere, I am going to transfer most of the funds into A+L's new 7% 1yr fixed rate bond.
Unfortunately, you can't do a direct transfer from an A+L account into the 7% bond, so I'm going to take out the max that I can from my Direct Saver (leaving £1000 in the account), transfer the funds to a current account held at a different bank and then open the Bond with a cheque from the other bank.
Convoluted but worth it!

Ike1Thank you for your reply.I did not think that you could open an A&L bond if you held an account with A&L.0

Looking at posts sent today, it looks like the 7% offer closed at 12.30pm this afternoon. To answer your question though, A+L customers were eligible to open the 7% bond.
