Hi, I was wondering if anyone else had any experience of this? A cup of water was spilt on my phone, it's a nokia 6288 so not the smallest mobile, and there was water pretty much covering the whole front of the phone. I cleaned it straight up, took it apart for a bit, and then when i switched it back on it was working perfectly but wasn't picking up any signal. I thought it was just the signal at my dads house, but it's been the same now since monday night.
The phone is insured, so I am going to have to get it replaced through that, but I'm just a bit confused. I've had quite a few phones that have been water damaged (hence me taking the insurance lol) but they've all stopped working completely. This one is working perfectly in every other way, it just won't pick up any signal. Anyone got any ideas? Thought I'd ask before I have to claim on the insurance. Thanks!

Dont be a hero
Take advantage of the insurance and a brand new phone as opposed to sorting the issue and sticking with second hand water-fixed handset.0 -
Did they change what is covered by the insurance? when I worked for one of the companies water damage wasn't covered due to so many customers dropping their phones down the loo.Winnings

I've just double-checked the website about the insurance and I'm covered for:
Loss
Theft
Accidental damage
Water or Liquid damage
Electrical or mechanical breakdown
Normally I'd be glad of a new phone, but it seems a shame to have to replace it when it does seem to be in perfect working order (apart from the signal obviously!). There's not a scratch on it or anything. Just seems really odd that it's still working, all of my others have just refused to stay switched on, or charge, or the screen has gone. Plus the insurance has an excess of £25 which I don't really have spare at the moment!0 -
I had the same problem with my Blackberry Pearl.
What I did was dissasemble it, soak it in alcohol I got from Maplin, cleaned all contacts (esp antenna contact) with cotton bud/alcohol, dried for 2 days, reassembled..works fine.
probably some moisture left on the antenna connect.
Make sure you take the battery and sim out first0 -
i dropped mine down the loo.. dried it out in the airing cupboard.. good as new
though my kids still keep giving me eewwww looks0
