MBNA - Omnipresent?

Hi

I've recently applied for and been refused a Virgin credit card because I already have an MBNA credit card (with a zero balance) and Virgin is owned by MBNA. I have also recently opened an Alliance and Leicester Online saving account in preparation for a new life of 'Tarting'. I was told that if I closed my MBNA credit account that I could then reapply for the Virgin card. Fair enough.

However, I have just read in Martin's 'Money Diet' that MBNA also own Alliance and Leicester (and a few more).....are they actually omnipresent or do they just own the Alliance & Leicester credit card business?

If I manage to get a super balance transfer on a new Virgin credit card and then transfer that to my AL online saver, would MBNA be able to find out and if so, would I be penalised for blatant tarting?

Any ideas?

Cheers

Hanbag
