Where to put short term savings?

We've recently sold our house and are goinig into rented accomodation while we look for another to buy. Where is the best place to put a six figure sum that we will probably need in 6 - 12 months time? Is the online Northern Rock a/c paying 6.49% a safe bet with the government guaranteeing the full amount? Any suggestions?
