Uninstalling Kaspersky without a password

A family member loaded a three-month trial version of the anti-virus software Kaspersky onto their computer. They subsequently forgot the password. We asked an IT student at the local university if he could remove the program, since we now use AVG. His solution was to boot the computer in safe mode, then delete the Kaspersky folder, which does then allow you to uninstall the program when you boot in normal mode. If you attempt to uninstall the program after a normal boot, it demands the password, which we don’t have.
Kaspersky is no more, so this approach worked. However, the computer will no longer work with MSN, while even Media Player has become unstable! The IT student cannot think of a fix. Does anybody else have any ideas on how this could be done?
Presumably, it would be possible to roll XP HE back to a date before the Kaspersky folder was deleted, which should bring back MSN. But how would we then get rid of the anti-virus, which had become a pain, not to mention being totally redundant.
Thanks for any suggestions.

We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0

Ok this is going to sound dumb but why did the IT student delete the Kaspersky folder in safe mode? silly turd.
What you need to do is:
1. Download the removal tool available at http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/kis6/kiskav6remove.zip
2. Unzip it to a folder called "Kaspersky 6" on the C drive (must be directly unzipped to a folder on the C drive and nowhere else)
3. Boot into safe mode and close any Kaspersky icons that load in task manager (bottom right)
4. Run the tool KisKav6Remove.exe and reboot.
See how you get on and report back.0 -
OK, will have a go this evening and let you know what happens. Clearly, I will have to roll XP back to the day prior to the initial folder deletion date!0

BIG PROBLEM. In order to get the computer back to Dec 30 when the virus checker was still in place, we need to use System Restore. However, whenever we try to access that from the Start/Accs menu we get a White Box with nothing in it. In other words, System Restore seems to have lost all its information; there is no writing in the box at all.
Any thoughts on how we can get that info back?0 -
System restore will not get a deleted folder back - have a look in the recycle bin..............Rich people save then spend.
Poor people spend then save what's left.0
