Since the package will have a PO printed ticket on it from their weighing system the PO at the other end will not weigh it again to check it. And if they do it will only show that the PO at this end is at fault.

Do all PO's print the postage slip for the package? I do two despatches a day. The morning one is at the central PO which do print out a sticker, then for late postage (just down the road from the other PO) i can take packages to the main sorting office open 'till 7.30 pm. Here, they do not print a slip and just weigh the package and put stamps on it...not even a printed receipt.

its unbeliveable that the post office/royal mail can get away with this level of service but i guess thats the price you pay for having a monopoly.

Longdon, its not just the postoffices that mislead you on services, I use the postal calculator on the royal mail website to work out constings for ebay auctions, I wanted to post to republic of ireland and i opted for a service listed on the website as being available to the republic of ireland, when got to the post office they said that couldnt send it this way and that wil be £2.00 more please!, now the website people say the web information is correct, the customer service people on the phone say they are wrong, but can you get them to talk to each other and correct it, can you buggery!!!

Post office scales should be as accurate, of the same specification as other scales in retail premises and get inspected by trading standards. If you still have any problems give them a ring.
:idea:I got an idea, an idea so smart my head would explode if I even began to know what I was talking about:idea:

....to as many local Po`s as you can, have them weigh it and give you the cost for home and abroad.
Ask them to just write down the costs for you.
If there is much of a difference, contact your local TS dept/local paper.
