I'm not looking to get into an argument with you about this, I was just looking to see if anyone else was experiencing similar problems.

Nobody's arguing - but my point is, if you try to escalate the matter this is the line the complaint handler will take - how would you respond?

I have complained to the Financial Ombudsman and they have contacted budget who are sticking to the charge and insist i will have to pay the £289.26.

Shame the FOS didnt charge you the £400 budget have had to pay because of your complaint that had no chance of success. Still, at least the more complaints like this will put pressue on the FOS to introduce a charge that hits the consumer on frivolous complaints. The Conservatives have made a proposal for this to happen.

Budget have done nothing wrong here.

    Neither has j4mieuk.

He/she was entitled to use the FOS.

If you have an issue with the £400 the FOS have charged for dealing with this, then take it up with the FOS.

It is nothing to do with your fellow MSE member.

The FOS is there to be used in accordance with its rules isn't it?

And why bring political parties into your argument.

Some might say the conservatives are tosh!

The other way of looking at it is how would you feel if your premiums were higher because you had to pay for other people cancelling their policies?

There have been numerous posts in the same vein as this one and your replies are inevitably less than helpful. The OP asked specifically if anyone else had a similar experience and not for your usual standard reply.
As for the reason for my quote, I'm happy to have those costs included in my premium because it is still competitive. And why, because the company I use is ethical and don't pare their costs to the bone knowing they'll recoup those costs from people who may have their car written off or changed, move house or any other reason to change some detail on their policy.
Budget and the other cheapos like them are totally unethical and you seem happy to continually support them. Takes all sorts I supose.

It already has been by someone else and the FOS lost in court. The funding of the FOS is likely to change in the future.

Like any free service that gets abused, the costs are going to be considered. The OP is within their right to take it further but what was the point? It was never going to win and the FOS have already made rulings on this in the past and have published their findings.

In the meantime, someone with a genuine issue has been held up and Budget are passing the costs of this complaint onto other insurers in their premiums.
And why bring political parties into your argument.

Because they have said they will introduce a charge due to the increasing abuse and frivolous nature of complaints going to the FOS.
Some might say the conservatives are tosh!

I may have mentioned a proposal by the opposition but you are the one introducing politics.

The FOS is a valuable free service to consumers. It isn't a service that should be abused because it will be taken away if it does.

There have been numerous posts in the same vein as this one and therefore the responses are going to be the same as well. I'm sorry that you are getting bored with them. Many fees are valid and some have been tested. Understanding why the fees exist goes someway to putting off the increasing number of threads we are getting people saying that any and every fee they pay is unfair.
Budget and the other cheapos like them are totally unethical and you seem happy to continually support them. Takes all sorts I supose.

Why are they unethical? They publish their fees. They are cheaper for the majority of people who dont cancel mid term. They charge those that do. Nothing unethical in that.

May I ask what, specifically, is 'unethical' about Budget's operations?

Call centre agents are usually poorly-trained, poorly-paid, low-skill staff who will generally say anything to get a moaning customer off their back. Make of this what you will.

Whatever the call centre monkey's opinion is, in my opinion the terms are not misleading. Again, if you thought they were misleading why did you not contact Budget at inception or prior to cancellation to clarify the position?

I never get my head round this assumption, whilst I work in sales (so if Im not trained it costs me money) I understand that 'some' call centre employees are not trianed well.

Also my average wage is 9k higher than the so called average for the area, so that puts paid to your idea that all call centre staff are poorly paid.

Oh and I take offence at being called a monkey

Hence why I used the word 'usually'! ;)

I don't recall calling you a monkey either.

I will agree with you on this - they are doing nothing wrong.

Most customers only care about the price, that is all they listen to - once they get a price they like they switch off for the bit between then and paying (unfortunatley thats the important bit) also despite being told to read their documents, they never do
