Hi there,
This is my first post so hopefully its in the right place.
We (my boyfriend and I) Are looking to go to Cancun around 28th July for two weeks give or take a couple of days either side. I have decided on the hotel which is the Rui Cancun and now have my heart set on this hotel.
However, the stumbling block is that I can only find the hotel on the Thomsons website and they do not fly from Glasgow..only Manchester. However, Thomas Cook have a flight from Glasgow on the 28th July which would be perfect...but they do not have the hotel
booking the flight and hotel seperate works out around £100 more expensive each!!..and we really need to book a package so that we can pay the holiday up each month...
Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated.
many thanks
claire

wow, the hotel looks to be around £150 per night for 2, had a quick look for you, have you thought about a few days in orlando, travelcitydirect fly from glasgow to orlando (sanford) , american airlines fly from orlando(mco) to cancun (about 250 euro's return each at first hit) you could spend a couple of days in orlando, fly to cancun for 10-11 days spend a day back in orlando before you come home. think of all that lovely shopping in the i-drive malls

We went to Mexico in September and first tried to book things separately but it was a LOT more expensive. I think you will find that Thomsons have the monopoly on the Riu hotels and you won't be able to book a package with anyone else. I would also suggest you check the reviews on Thomas Cook flights to Mexico as the ones I read were horrendous !
We eventually went with Thomsons (used a £150 discount code) to the Riu Tequila in Play Del Carmen and had a amazing holiday.0 -
Thanks very much for the quick replies and suggestions. We would rather go directly to Cancun thanks for the fortnight. Perhaps if the reviews for Thomas Cook are bad we would be better flying with Thomsons then as by bofriend is 6"4 and can be extremely uncomfortable flying.
Maybe we will just need to book the Thomsons from manchester and travel back and forth. Thing is that the flight is at 9.30am from Manchester so would probably need to stay in Manchester the night before adding cost to our trip, we would also need to book the plane/coach/train.
are there any current Thomsons codes?

have you looked at tripadvisor in case there is another hotel you would like to go to instead of the travel to manchester.we went on holiday from manchester and it was alright going but when your tired and just want home the journey is rotten.if you don't mind how much are you paying? and how much is the flight only.0

Cancun is very Americanised. It's a Las Vegas style strip with high rise hotels, American chain bars and resturants and glitzy shopping malls. The Mexicans call it the American playground. You get a lot of youngsters there who just want to get drunk and party. I didn't like it.
We stayed at Playa Del Carmen. It's a smaller resort with no high rise hotels. The main street is pedestrianised and is mainly filled with small independant shops, bars and restuarants. It's quieter there and the beach is better than Cancun. I love it here. Playacar is within walking distance of Playa Del Carmen.
Tulum is further south still with even better beaches, but the resort is a lot smaller and quieter.
I just thought I'd let you know in case you are like me and don't like big party type resorts and would be happier in either of the other two. Here I go again on my own....0 -
We stayed at the Riu last year and it was the most amazing place, we would dearly love to go back. Although it is in the middle of the Hotel Zone we found that of a night we maybe had a stroll outside having a look in the shops etc and then spent the rest of the night in the hotel socialising and making the most of the all-inclusive drinks. It does have it's own nightclub if you fancy a bit of a boogie. The beach outside is really nice although it is quite narrow.
Hope you have a lovely time and if there is any space in your suitcase give us a shout

I agree with Becles. Playa del Carmen is wonderful, much more 'mexican' than Cancun and the Riu hotels there are great.0

Get Thomas Cook to do a costing for the Riu Palace - its next door to the Riu Cancun but even nicer
Palace guests can use the Riu Cancun's facilities also so you cant go wrong. I have been to both, the first time was the Riu with Thomson the 2nd the Palace with Thomas cook & Thomas cook won hands down. Much better servive in-flight (never again will we fly long haul Thomson) Either way the Riu's are AMAZING :j :j0
