Musty Smell

We live in an old ,over 120 year old house,it has been damp coursed just 18 months ago and eveything is ok there.My problem is in the hall,there is a very tiny cupboard at floor level with the gas meter in it.When i read the meter ther is a very musty smell and Im worried it's damp.There is no signs of damp anywhere on the walls and the hall is not cold.I have put some damp crystalls on top of the meter and although they have slightly hardened there is no water.Should I be worried.

If its an enclosed space without ventilation you probably would get a musty smell, particularly if the hall is not heated much. If the cupboard is on an outside wall it would make it worse. Are there just floorboards in the cupboard?. If so the mustiness may be coming up from under the floorboards if its a suspended floor. Under floor voids often smell musty even if there is no damp problem. Try putting masking tape over any floorboard cracks and leaving the door of the cupboard open or ajar and see it it improves the situation.
