Can I pay foreign notes and coins into bank account?

Options
Hi All,

I've found about £30 worth of euro in a drawer, not going on holiday for a very long time, so wondered if I could pay in into my current account.

I remember someone once telling me that banks wouldn't take foreign coins, is this still the case?.

Thanks

why don't you contact your bank and ask them? Surely they are the only ones who can give you a definative answer?
  • No high street bank will accept coins other than in charity boxes.

They do accept UK coins if they are bagged up in the correct denominations so they can be easily weighed out.

Also, the post office will take the same.

Banks used to take coins, but it is too much hassle for them to count them now.

Foreign coins, you cannot even change them back at the Bureau de Change place - they only take notes. I would hold onto them for your next holiday. Or give them to one of the charities that take foreign coins.

And to pay foregin coins into your bank account, I am sure you would need some kind of foreign currency account, most current accounts are sterling only
