Hi Guys and Galls
my 10 year passport is up for re-newall at the begining of next year, are there any tips people want to give or is it just a case of going to the Post Office and getting the relivant form to send off?
thanks in antisapation

No need to go to the Post Office...you can do it online...

You can 'apply' on line but the passport agency will send you an application form which has been completed, using the answers you have given.
It is worth checking this though as my son's application had the wrong bits filled in and no it wasn't me it was a computer error, lol!
Would also recommend the check and send service and be careful -depending on where in the world you want to go to this year you may need your passport to be valid for 6 months after to come home.2014 Target;

One other thing - if you fill in the form yourself, DON'T USE A BLUE PEN! We got caught out on this one - it has to be black so it will show up on a scanner properly. And if you still have to get photos signed on the back by someone else (not sure if this is the case for renewals but it certainly is for new passports) then that has to be in black pen as well.Before you criticise a man, walk a mile in his shoes. My tip:
Learn to spell ! !0 -
Renew as early as possible. They will carry over 9 months worth from your old passport. This will save hassle on countries that require a certain amount of months for validity and any future price increases."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0

When filling the form in, spell what you write correctly.0

The photo's will need to be countersigned if the appearance of the person has significantly changed from the picture in the original passport. We had to get my daughters pictures countersigned although my sons were fine. If your passport is up for renewal within 9 months I advise applying for a new passport now - as long as won't need it to travel in the next few weeks. UKPA will always add up to 9 months on to a passport if the application for a new passport is made before it expires, e.g. if your current passport has 6 months left on it and you renew now, your new passport will be valid for 10 years and 6 months.
You stand to save quite a bit of money if you apply now because the new biometric passports, due for introduction in October, will not only cost more money than current passports but will require a face-to-face interview with UKPA, at a designated registration centre, which could cost you a day off work. (This is happening in anticipation of the ID cards and National Identity Register legislation.)
Renew now! You won't lose any time from your passport, you'll save on the processing fee and you won't have to miss a day of work to attend an interview!
