Internal Door Hanging

Hi,

I moved house last year and hate all my internal doors.

I have 8 to replace (and have the new ones sitting in my dining room... since last April...)

Unfortunately, DH works all hours, and isn't that DIY minded, so I really need someone to come and fit them all, including handles.

Any idea's on how much this is likely to cost? Will carpenters even want to do such a hateful job?

If anyone has any recommendations for anyone who could do this in Birmingham - please PM me!

Otherwise, some idea of how much I should budget that'd be great - I'm determined not to let another year slip by with them still in their boxes!

I want to do the same thing to our doors, we are in west yorkshire and there is a guy who advertises in the local paper and charges £25 per internal door. When we do ours we are going to use him as that seems quite reasonable to me (not sue if it IS though!)

Hi, we ve just had ten doors hung and paid £25 a door which was really cheap. (We were quoted £45 a door by two other chippies)
Our man took a day and a half to hang them so I think his price was fair and the other two were very OTT.
We bought our doors from howdens who are also very reasonable.

We are just about to buy 4 internal doors for 3 bedrooms and a bathroom. So I like to know this too. It would include supplying hinges, door handles and the internal mechanisms for it.

We also have a double set of doors for a through lounge that are too short, the catch doesn't quite go into the other door to keep shut so probably need a few mm added on the door or thicken the door hinge

You need a carpenter. Expect to pay around £130 - £160 per day plus and extra £60 - £80 if he has a mate. I would have thought that eight doors and furniture will take a whole day for a carpenter and mate. More if they need glazing, are fire doors, require closers or are special in some other way. You'll be lucky to find a decent carpenter who will split days, so get together ALL the little jobs that need doing.

And please tell me that they have been layed flat, separated by battens and somewhere dry since last April.

Edit: Oh, yeah. Those prices are for the West Midlands. I would imagine they would be a little* low for London.

I charge £35 a door (more if firedoor) including fitting latch and handles and an equal gap all round as this is what I get on site.
Poppycat if the gap is minimal you may be able to pack the hinges off the frame ie unscrew hinge and place a business card cut to size behind hinge do one side first then the other if needed
