Just wanted to share with you guys, as I know you will all be with me.
Just when I thought I was getting back on track today I went to the dentist (after a bit of an accident) and even on the NHS its going to cost me £380 to get my teeth fixed, I'm really down but think I would ffel worse If I didn't get them fixed.
SO looks like I'll be a DFW for a little while longer!!

I feel for you-I'm too afraid to go to the dentist because it always ends up costing me about £200 and I can't afford it. I can't get an NHS dentist at all.
But if you're in pain or its making you feel bad, you're doing the right thing going!:heartpuls:heartpuls

Dental charges are a complete scandal but it's important to look after your teeth.
When things like this crop up it's so frustrating isn't it?

That is awful news but if you look on the bright side at least it is a one off expense and not a regular one and you will feel so much better once the work is done.Debt August 2007 - £38,204.58 - Completely Debt Free - May 2008 - Now Proudly Saving.DFW Nerd Number 684 - Proud To Have Dealt With My Debts:heartpuls Very Proud Aunty Ciara :heartpuls0

Look on it as an investment in your health and your future... looking after the pearlies is very important. (I've learned, for instance, that eating lemon bonbons while very pregnant is not tooth-friendly practice - cost me a fortune to put right the damage done!)
Dentist.... £380
Confident smile.... Priceless:DI'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

But what a beautiful smile you'll have when you hit the debt free date!
yep these things just crawl out of the woodwork when you can least afford it. Don't get down, it's a minor setback in the scheme of things. And the other posters are right - it's an expense that is justifiable.
You'll get back on track soon enough!0 -
Thank you all so much, you have really cheered me up, came home thinking how can I do this and I knew I needed to come on here and share with you.

I don't know if this will work, but have you tried telling your dentist that you can't afford it and ask to be referred to the hospital.
At my poorest, my dentist quoted £250 for a job, I think I went purple and said something like, "I'll just let it fall out" - before I knew it, he had booked me into the local dental hospital, I had the repair work done, and it didn't cost me a penny.
I was also listening to LBC today and they were talking about dentists, and some people said they had gone to local dental training hospitals and got there teeth done by students. The process took longer, but cut their costs considerably, so maybe another option.

Donna - I did ask about the hospital but in our area there is an 18 month waiting list and I just don't think I could cope having to wait that long:(
But I'm so glad you guys are hereNew surname New start!

Could you take out a dental insurance plan? A friend said she was paying something like £11 a month, left it 6 months until she was able to claim and then got £100's of pounds worth of treatment for well, £66.Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!

Robotgirl - this is a great idea - might be worth looking into and seeing if any of the plans have a clause where i can claim sooner than 6months!
