Fan assisted oven -problems

Weve got a range style cooker and one of the ovens is fan assisted........well at least it should be but it seems not to work.
OH has tried spraying it inside with degreaser as he thinks the fan may be clogged up a bit (too many sunday roasts !) and if its turned on full heat it does start working. Is this a problem with it being clogged up or has the fan given up the ghost ?
OH can't get it out to give it a good going over or even a good look and don't want to call someone in if we needn't.
Any ideas ?
(The oven does still work but after several years of using a fan assisted oven it seems to take forever to cook dinner)

How did you manage it ? OH swears he can't get the old one out to even clean it properly.

Does your oven have a self-cleaning cycle? If you still have the manual, check it out because I think this runs for about an hour on the highest temperature. It may be that a good clean/degreasing via this method would solve the problem without resorting to expensive service repairs.0

I'll have a look for the manual (it must be somewhere in the drawer..........lol). I know when OH puts it on full pelt it starts to work so it might have. Thanks for that:jMary

the oven was held in the unit by 4 screws, located just behind the door.
once it was out, it was simple enough to remove the fan etc and then replace.Get some gorm.0 -
Thanks ormus. Maybe OH just hadn't got the right screwdriver or something.
Just found the manual (can't believe I laid my hands on it straight away !)
It does have a degree of self cleaning but no mention of the fan at all or what to do .............couldn't find a 'troubleshooting' section either.
I just whacked the oven on full and left it for a while ...........fan didn't work straight away but now it is so maybe thats the answer for now and then see about replacement.Mary

the manuals they give you, rarely tell you how to fix the thing. they are more like user manuals.
you really need a technical manual. some websites are very good for the info. most sites are appalling. the makers are in league with the service men. they dont like diyers.
hence the price of parts from the makers. but a lot of parts are generic.
ebay is a real boon.Get some gorm.0 -
Where might I find something other than a 'users manual' on the net ? Thats really what I could do with. I did google about to see if there were any sites with FAQ on but there was nothing I found that applied to my problem.Mary
