HSBC application - hardly asked anything!

Hi

I just applied for a HSBC CC online and they hardly asked anything, just my name, address and phone number. No salary, no employer, no "how long at this address?", nothing  How are they make a decision based on just that and my credit file?

I am already a HSBC customer and registered for internet banking (which I assume is why they asked so little) but I haven't used any of their accounts for years and years (except to open a savings account to get that free £20 offer last year ;)).

Hmm, is this normal?? I shall be annoyed if I get turned down based on my name and address :rotfl:

I had the same experience when applying online and not being asked any income question. I thought it very strange. (I eventually got declined by post.)

I guess you will be accepted if your credit 'score' is good - combined with sufficient 'activity' on the account

(Let's see what comes of it?)

  • This is normal. I have an HSBC business account and credit card and they asked nothing at all to open that (as a current account holder)

Congratulations on choosing HSBC - it is the only credit card company I have not had any trouble with!
£8k to pay off before Jan 2011! Was 28k to pay off by Jan 2010 though so I'm happy :)

I remember when I applied online, as an existing customer the application form was only 5 questions.. as others have said its because they hold a lot of other information on file about you already.

If they decide they need more information - they will send you a letter asking you to call them.

  • Thats good to know littlemissmoney.
I bank with HSBC online as well for many years and have an M&S More card. Will they still allow me a HSBC credit card because M&S More are part of the same group?

I really struggle to believe that they hold any useful info on me. The last time I used the (current) account I have with them was years ago, before I even had my first job. I barely used it and it's sat dormant ever since. Oh well, we will see...
