Hi
I would be really grateful if someone could give me a lesson in the different sort of blank disks that you can buy.
I want to put photos onto disk to play on my DVD player, and also look at on the computer.
What should I get?
Thanks

get some blank dvd's (as long as you have a dvd writer on the computer) otherwise you will have to use blank cd ( as long as you have a cd writer on the computer)
Save the pictures to the disk using the computer and most dvd's will be able to read the result.Nudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0 -
Depends on what your dvd player (make/model?) is compatible with and what your dvd writer (make/model?) is compatible with. The DVD player may only be compatible with DVD- and not DVD+ for example or vice versa or it may not be able to read burned DVDs at all etc."She is quite the oddball. Have a look here and if your DVD player is listed it will tell you what type of discs it is compatible with. It's my problem, it's my problem

I use TDK cdr. I wait until I have 700Mb of files then write the disc.
A DVD is too big 4.7Gb and thats a lot of piccies to collect. Dont get the unbranded one's for 10p each. Get them in 25's or 50's pack's or 100's if you want. TDK seem to be accepted by most reader/writers. Only write on the cd with a cd with a felt pen, from TDK. I have also been given some Pleomax DVD+R from Samsung that work ok. Mostly I save to cdr.0 -
Also make sure your DVD player will actually play .jpeg files.
Dont think all Sony models will0 -
In a nutshell, blank CDs hold 700 Megabytes of data. Blank DVDs hold 4.7 Gigabytes (roughly 4700 megabytes) so DVDs are better for large amounts of data, particularly if you plan to continually add to the DVD over time.
There are different flavours of blank CDs and DVDs.
The most common are CD-Rs, (recordable) which are blank CDs that can be burnt only once and cannot be erased. You can however continue to add data to them until the disk is full, providing you don't 'finalise' the disk.
Then there are CD-RWs (rewritable) which are like CD-Rs, except they can be erased and therefore used multiple times, much like recording over an old cassette tape. They tend to be more expensive.
An identical approach exists for DVDs, there being both recordable (DVD-R) and rewritable (DVD-RW) disks, however the issue is slightly complicated in that there exists two common formats, plus and minus. So you might see DVD+R or DVD+RW advertised too. Many players accept both formats no problem, but a great deal are fussy so you need to check first which format you need. This does not apply for CD-Rs.
There also exists other formats such as DVD-RAM, but these are less common and I wouldn't worry too much about them.0
