I've just been to a tesco metro near my work to buy a sandwich and drink for lunch (not a good moneysaving tactic i know). As a newcomer to the wonderful world of coupons i thought i'd ask the nice young guy at the till if he could try swiping the times voucher i'd cut out. It swiped! Upshot was my lunch cost exactly £2.40, swipe coupon, means i paid nothing. Is this normal? I thought the supermarkets had a maximum 10% of your shopping in coupons policy?

Wow, what a great first coupon experience for you! :D But yes, I think you were very lucky to get away with that -- most supermarkets don't let you pay for your whole shop with vouchers. Make sure you remember the guy that served you and go to his checkout next time! :)

You just got very lucky. I hope that you wrote the lads name down so you can go to him again!

Just been to Waitrose again today. Checked with customer services at the welcome desk that their coupon policy hadn't changed and ran through a couple of the coupon kinds I was going to use to check with her that they stocked the products. Also asked if I needed to fill my name and address out on the Harpers & Queens coupons (they said yes please, but I did it kind of illegably!). At the end of my shop...
    total £143 minus £7 for multi-buys = £136...
I paid £47 so that's a whopping £89 off in coupons - certainly made it worth buying those copies of the Times on Weds!!

BlueP where is your Waitrose? I recently moved to a village near S-o-T but haven't found a Waitrose neaby, yet.

    Thanks

I've been using all my Times coupons in Tesco, upto 4 each time. Went to Waitrose and they told me I could use 1 per visit, so it just goes to show that each kind of supermarket chain makes it up as they go along, it's great though if you find a shop that will take what you want. In a way I'm glad these have stopped in the Times now as it's too tempting to grab a few more each day. Well... that is until bluep says tomorrow another coupon in the Times today. lol. Wished I'd checked this site yesterday and got a copy of the Telegraph, I adore '5 go mad in Dorset', grew up watching that and other comic strip stuff.

    Hi Charlotte
Was it the checkout operator that told you that in Waitrose? If it was then it would be worth asking them to check with a manager. I had the same response both times I've tried to use my vouchers and each time the manager has said that they do accept multiple vouchers. On the last occasion the manager had to explain that they get paid from the manufacturer anyway so it doesn't matter if the customer doesn't buy the stated product as long as they stock the item. If it was a manager then I'd email Waitrose and take a copy with you.
    :)
