Smoked for 10 years - a bit like drinking, won't smoke for days then will smoke 20 on a weekend. Fell guilty then don't smoke for 2 weeks. Go out, then smoke again.

Round and round with feelgood/guilt cycle.
  • Just thought I would post this comment from a friend who has done the allen carr stop smoking thingy ...

"it's going much better than I could have hoped for. We went clubbing on Friday and got completely round the bend, my friend Dan chain smoked all the way through and it just didn't bug me at all. In fact I really didn't even think about it at all. Once the brain washing goes then there is no battle left, you become normal again like someone who's never smoked before.

Its just plain sailing. no fear. no anxiety. Even at work over the last two days, I used to go outside and smoke but it doesn't even occur to me now.

    Indulge your curiosity!"

Just thought I'd join in on this thread on a slightly different tack..
    Firstly
    1) Managed to stop smoking 3 years ago when I found out I was pregnant (and haven't smoked since.) I was really lucky because the chemical shift as a result of being pregnant resulted in me not wanting nicotine in my body at all....so that was easy

2)On a more relevant note, I guess I have had issues with alcohol for a long time ( 10 years?) and have been quite addicted to the stuff..read allan carrs 'How to control alcohol' and wow........my life has been totally transformed. A miracle...I will never drink again!

OK OK , this is probably a bit too far for some people, and less is said about this aspect, but hey, I thought I'd share this....it really can be done with ALlan Carr....it's soooo easy...if you want it to be!

    Enjoy it, guys!
    ;)

I've been reading the book but I usually only read in bed at night time. As I work in a pub 4-5 nights a week i've been a bit tired and not reading it. I'm about halfway through but am worried that it is taking so long to read I'll forget what was said at the beggining.

Anyone who has succeeded with the book, did you read it in one go or take several weeks to read?

I might have to set aside a day or two and start again otherwise :(

I had to join in as one who was 'saved' by AC 7 years ago. I read 'The Only Way to Stop Smoking Permanently'. I must admit that I couldn't put it down but I was a student at the time so I had that luxury. I wouldn't worry about how long it takes to read - the message is reiterated throughout.
I smoked heavily (30 roll-ups a day) and really thought I'd never stop. My boyfriend of the time bought the book for me and I scanned it thinking it would be the usual 'chew a carrot when you feel the cravings, dump your smoking friends, don't drink' type of thing. But it was so easy! Instead of suffering when I stopped, it felt like I'd been released from prison.

  •  I will just add though that I was very very determined about stopping and the book helped with that, rather that initiated it.  best of luck - never stop stopping.

I agree with that. Ive been a smoker for 27 yrs, & found the book was really just common sense, just made you think of things a bit differently. I didnt read it all in one go,read it over a couple of wks, & havent smoked since, been 5mths now ;D
  • Spoke to someone the other night who said it had worked for him. Also got chatting with someone who had been to a hypnotherapist/hypnotist who had charged him £30.00 for 30 mins and he hasn't smoked since.

A couple of weeks after this chat, I spoke to someone else who had been seeing the same hypnotist. Decided that it had to be worth a go. £40.00 for a 45 minute session. Really rather strange.....but it's now been 5 weeks without a cigarette and I have been out drinking and socialising with not a single moment of craving.

I have the extra incentive of saving the Allen Car money that I have already paid.

Worth a try - it's been so easy.
