Hello i have finally bit the bullet and purchased a new Samsung 37 inch 1080p LCD tv.
Very impressed with it really nice unit, 1 thing i have noticed is that there appear to be horizontal lines in the background, could this be due to only using my existing scart cables which i think are cheap and cheerful?
If this is correct can anyone recommend any good decent priced scart cables??

Mmmm, to get the best results you should be using HDMI, assuming you have an HD Sky Box, and/or DVD player.
If you are using Standard definition sources try changing to RGB instead of composite video.
Personally I wouldn't spend more than a tenner on a scart lead, if I'm buying a few cables I usually use Cable Universe. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

I really am a novice at this type of thing, how do i go about this please??
Also i use a surround sound system using scart leads and the sound is slightly out to the tv sound so gives an echo like sound, any advice??
Sorry currently using sky +, hd to follow0 -
On your Sky + box go into the services menu, select picture settings, and change the appropriate item from PAL to RGB.

To get RGB you need to connect a SCART lead (look for Thor, Philex, Vivanco and the Ixos blue range - all £12 to £18) from the TV SCART on the sky box to a RGB enabled SCART connection on the TV. On most new TVs all the SCART connections are RGB enabled but if not, it will more than likely be the #1 connection. Also make sure it is set to 16:9 and SCART control is set to on, then save (bottom button).
Your SCART cables may well be the issue, so check the connections, reverse the existing cable and try another cable. Try another SCART source in the same SCART connection e.g. DVD player to rule out the TV is at fault. If you have another TV, try the sky box on that to rule out the sky box.
When you say that your home cinema system is out from the TV's sound, it will be. You shouldn't be listening to both at the same time. If you want to use the home cinema system, turn the TV volume down. To get 5.1 surround sound from the sky+ box you need to use an optical connection if your home cinema system has one (set sky+ to digital audio in the sound settings menu).0
