Plastic film for covering a ......

I need to get hold of some coloured plastic film for applying to the clock face of a newly purchased radio/alarm clock. Father Christmas was kind enough to buy me a radio/alarm for Xmas (must have been a good boy at sometime last year, can't remember when though !) - the problem is that the glare/glow from the clock face is much too bright at night, this, despite the fact that the item has an automatic light dimmer so the brightness diminishes when the clock detects darkness. However, even with the dimmer activating the whole bedroom is a glow with a blue tint. I only need some coloured tint plastic film about the size of your hand - any ideas ??

I'm in the same boat. I bought a clock radio with a blue backlight, however, even on the lowest setting it lights up the whole room at night and keeps us awake. Suffice it to say, it's now unplugged until we can reduce the brightness.

I wondered if photo negatives would do the job, but since we've had a digital camera for nearly 10 years, we don't have any photo negatives any more!

It must be possible to buy some dark plastic film??
Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!

I had the same problem years ago, solved it by sellotapeing a piece of thin white plastic, cut from a carrier bag, over the display screen. You need to make sure the plastic is thin enough to read the numbers through but not to let too much light through.

Wonka - i,ve found the perfect solution. If you visit www.sureguard.co.uk you will find a selection of plastic film for glass - you can request a free sample online - mine came yesterday and was perfect for sticking over the face of the alarm clock. Make sure you request the film with the peel of backing (makes life easier for attaching to the alarm clock. !! ;)

    Thanks for the heads-up!

I've just been on that website but couldn't find how to request a free sample, sorry if I'm being a bit thick. Whereabouts is it?

  • Wonka - in that site I gave you there is/was a link to another site - i've found it now and its better to go direct at www.shop4windowfilms.co.uk
on the left hand choice list click on Hitech Nova film - on the page that comes up click on "contact us" - the page that comes up asks for your details and you will see half way down that enquiry form there is a box that says "request a sample" - off you go.
