How to get rid of gravel?

I moved in to my property about 2 years ago, and have been meaning to do up the garden as its in a bit of a mess. I have a large garden, probably the size of half a 5 a-side football pitch. Problem i have is that i want to get rid of the gravel (i mean alot of gravel ) cheap and nasty stuff. I can't hire a skip, as the skip would be outside a busy main road, so could be a hazard. Not sure if i can hire a van and take it to the recycling centre, as they might take it. So any other options would be grateful, thanks.

Could you not dig it into the ground?
  • See if any neighbours have gravel, then offer it to them to top up their own gravel. Maybe even get a few quid for it, but I wouldn't push it for money. Possibly say they could help and you'll give it to them for free. It'll no doubt be back breaking work so will be a good deal for you.

Would love too, but planning on laying some turf on about half the garden. Whats really annoying, is just after i purchased the flat one of my neighbours told me that she already had grass. But of course she pulled it up, hired someone to put cheap gravel in the whole garden so as it would be cheap maintanance to whoever bought the flat. BUT I HATE THE STUFF . Plan is to lay on the grass this summer, not on gravel

Find your local freecycle website (usually a yahoo group) and offer the gravel out. Always someone out there wanting something for nothing.
  • yep got to agree offer some to your neigbours then dig the rest into the soil ,it may be hard work but you only get what you put into it a nice lawn is all down to the prep.

I'd say offer it free - either word of mouth, or a sign outside your house or a card in a local shop. Free gravel - buyer collects.

We've done that and it helped both us and the "collectors".
