gutter problem

hi

i am after some advice on what my options are

here is the problem living in a terraced house, the guttering on the roof i think it is called a trough is a joint one with the neighbours and drains at our end. now it has become faulty and started leaking on our end. to get it replaced we need to fix all of the gutter including the neighbours at first he was willing to get his side fixed but now wants nothing to do with it as its not affecting him much.

what are my rights, what can i do as i would prefer for him to have his own drain there fore avoiding problems like this in future

i cant just block his side off as the water will then drop on to our doorstep

any advice appreciated

    hi

it is cast iron, i have cleaned it and got a professional opinion who said it is best to replace,

most of the houses on the street have there own downpipe ours and one other on the street being an exception as the street is ona slope ours being at the end at the bottom the water just rolls down.

i have discussed it with the neighbour and at first he was willing to change it but took some advise of someone else and has decided it against it meaning i will have to replace his as well as my own.

a downpipe on his would solve the problem in the future as if this was to happen again then i wouldnt need to ask him and just fix my own and he can fix his own

just unsure how to go about this one i have tried to reason with him but he is getting difficult to deal with as he is unaffected by the problem and this is going to cost a fair bit of money.

I would put a new section up over my house with a stop end at both ends, but I would tell my neighbour first to give him time to reconsider.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

    hi

that is illegal as when he bought the house it was setup like this so i cant really do that even if i was to put an end stop on it would fallover on to my doorstep the only thing i can do now is talk to him and get him to agree or foot the cost of replacing his and my trough at expense to me

    i cant afford that

Just replace your part of your house up to the boundary, I am sure the new gutter can be joined up to his

even if you have to replace the whole lot. plastic pipe and guttering is very inexpensive.
    ie 4m guttering = 7.29

Exactly what is the cause of the leak? Or is it a problem of the guttering overflowing?
