mate of mine who lives out there with the Navy usually drives and parks at malaga airport (I think) and flies to luton or somewhere....
but books in advance... so all the cheap deals with budget airlines0 -
It is a 1.5 - 2 hour drive from Gib border to Malaga, depending on how fast you drive. Historically there have been problems crossing the border between Gib and Spain, I have been in the border queue for 2 hours, although this is a lot better now. There is no public transport from La Linea (other side of border) direct to Malaga A/P. You will have to weigh this up with the option of flying from Gib to Gatwick and getting to Peterbourgh from there.Something Really Interesting0

The best flight option is flyng Monarch Gibraltar to Luton direct - daily flights. Not necessarily the least expensive but always gives you an easy option. Alternatively, as has already been posted you can drive to Malaga or my preference... Jerez (better option). Jerez has a very good cheap frequent service to Stansted with Ryan Air and is much easier to get to or negotiate (especially with all the reconstruction going on at Malaga Airport over the next 18 months or so).
With the motorway system much enhanced in recent years both airports can be reached easily within an hour and a half.
If driving is a problem, you can find others who are regularly making the same trip and probably share the drive. Alternatively, there ARE bus services from La Linea which will get you to both Jerez or Malaga but involves a change or two.
Oh... and the border should not be any problem nowadays. The queues are not at all what they used to be and is getting better all the time.
For more options and questions, have a look at Gibraltar News Online Travel Info Forum. Lots more info on working and living in Gibraltar there too!
Hope that helps... and good luck!
Saludos!
