Vietnam via Bangkok ?

Been to vietnam 4 years ago, travelled to Bangkok, and got the hotel to
arrange flights/visa etc. no problems. want to go back in August. Can get a
flight for about £600, but can get on to Hanoi from London for about an
extra £ 150. Is it worth the extra, as I would have to get a visa before
travelling- how would I go about this ? cost ?. Is the extra more than I
would pay when I get someone to do it for me in Bangkok. Any help MUCH
appreciated.

This where i normally go for advice. The bucket shops in Bangkok should be able to get you a cheap deal, will certainly be cheaper than £150 return from BKK to Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh.
Might be good to spend a night in BKK , get some sleep and pick up your ticket, then head off to Vietnam fresh the next day?

Have a look at Air France. I flew with them from Bangkok to Saigon. They were the cheapest than any of the other airlines. They do flights from CDG to BKK and then onto Saigon.

Vietnam airlines offer the cheapest flights to HCMC or Hanoi if you are gonna take a flight from bangkok/HK etc... though you will have to go through an agent or look them up on the net ...... Planes are a bit freaky though .... AC system looks like it is on fire with all that .. well, it looks like smoke and managed to make me panick :o

We used a travel agents to get our visas cos it was rather last minute, and booked flights via ebookers, using cashback site and nectar points collected too. Glad i did that before we went too and didn't wait till we got there. The flights are long and its not fun doing all that when you just land cos you just wanna get out!
Can give you the name of the agent we used for visas (OH bought his ticket there too, he travelled before us) if you like, they are based in london. Have been back 3 weeks and I have spent everyday wishing we were back there!

Always double and triple check any Visa advice from anywhere, Travel agents do make mistakes, a common error is the need for Transit visas
