Cancelling and reapplying for credit cards

in Credit cards
I've got about 5 credit cards that I dont use. If I cancel them, will they allow me to rejoin in a few months time?
Also, I had a Barclaycard that I applied for in december and arrived back in January with 9 months 0% on balance transfers. I havent activated it yet, so would it be possible to activate it and get the deal or should I just call the cancellation line?

They will allow you to apply again and to be elegible for 'new customer' deals, but you can not apply after just a few months. The length of time varies from lender to lender, but you can use 6 to 8 months as a rule of thumb. Most are 6 months, MINT (part of Royal Bank) is 8 months, but CapitalOne will consider another application almost immediately after closing down your existing one. Also, I had a Barclaycard that I applied for in december and arrived back in January with 9 months 0% on balance transfers. Check the Ts & Cs. I think that 0% BTs on Barclaycard can only be done in the first month or two of the accout being open, but I could be wrong. Read the Ts & Cs.
