Purchases over £100 protected?

hi all.

Need to know the name of the 'Act' that covers purchases made with a CC for over £100, where the Bank is jointly liable if things go wrong. I am having trouble with TESCO Visa, who say they cant help unless I can quote this act to them !! - It's NOT the Sale of Goods Act. Any ideas please????

They are jointly liable under the consumer credit act 1974.
I would get the persons name and make a formal complaint about this (at the same time as pusuing your issue).
Making you "jump through hoops" regarding the law of the land is absolutely not acceptable.

The unhelpful response you have initially received from Tesco may be because the c/s agent is not aware of the act. Surprisingly enough, these front line agents tend not to be trained to handle such matters and are therefore blissfully ignorant of the rules.
What exactly has gone wrong ?
Most credit card companies have specialist teams(disputes depts.)to deal with such issues as I've had successful dealings before with them (BTW not Tesco). You need to get past the initial s/c agents so try asking for disputes/fraud depts and I think things may get easier.
