Hello all,
Just a quick request for information, I have seen this PC and 1. its a bit confusing and 2. It looks like a decent deal to me but im a bit of a amateur when it comes to these things.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/QUAD-CORE-9-6Ghz-Q6600-2GB-250GB-19-Widescreen-TFT_W0QQitemZ120210881141QQihZ002QQcategoryZ179QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem
So firstly it says that:
- Dual Channel DDR/DDRII memory technology
- Supports DDRII667/533/400/333/266
- 2 x DDR DIMM & 2 x DDRII DIMM slots
- Max. capacity: 2GB
but later on says this:
2048MB (2GB) DDR2 800Mhz PC6400 RAM Memory
but doesnt the earlier say this isnt supported?
Also if 2gb is the maximum capacity if in the future I wanted more RAM how much would RAM overhall cost?
Lastly is the deal any good?
Thanks everyone for the help cheers

It certainly doesn;t mention ddr2 800 mhz ram in the motherboard spec listed. It would still work but at a lower speed. If the motherboard only supports 2Gb of RAM and it comes with 2Gb the only way to increase it in future would be to replace the motherboard with a board that supports more RAM.
personally I wouldn't buy a PC from ebay, the deal looks OK but you don't know exactly what components are in it. You've no idea if the monitor is any good for example. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
I'd compare with current Dell deals for a price comparison: http://www.dmxdimension.com/0

tbh it's a bit of a waste of money. For quad core you ideally want more than 2gb of ram and nothing you run (I guess) is really going to require a quad core cpu. More than that it's a really budget motherboard.0

After only reading half of the title I would avoid it like the plague.
Any seller quoting QUAD CORE 9.6Ghz Q6600 is just manipulating specs to make it sound better.
Just by that simple bit of waffle, the seller becomes untrustworthy (second hand car dealer type!!)
Compare it to this listing (although not in the same price bracket). the seller seems up front and genuine.

I'm not saying Ebay is the best place to buy a PC from, but being accurate is a simple MUST for ebay sellers0 -
The company (palicomp) are total cowboys. My father in law bought a system off them a year or so ago. Total pile of junk. Ended up getting sent back due to component failures. It was built out of the cheapest crap they could get their hands on.
I'd only buy big name stuff of ebay which is new boxed. Preferably Acer, Dell or Apple! Stay away from HP as well - I've had two of their sodding desktops catch fire on me!£8k to pay off before Jan 2011! Was 28k to pay off by Jan 2010 though so I'm happy

If you all the way down the description, if you can stand it, then they tell you it's rubbish further onIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0

Hi, I sell custom built computers on ebay (powerseller too!) and I pride myself on the quality and customer support. I've never dealt with Palicomp and couldn't comment on the quality of their goods, but I'd be happy to discuss a system with you. My prices are usually slightly higher than other sellers, but then I do use better quality components and offer a 3 yr warranty. If you aren't happy to use ebay, I'd be happy to give you advice on a suitable system. What sort of system are you looking for? (gaming, office, media etc..) If its for a gaming machine, while that system looks good on paper, pairing up a quad core processor with a lower range geforce card doesn't make sense to me. I think you would be better off with a higher speed dual core processor (which would be faster in most situations) and spend the money you'd save to upgrade the graphics card. As for the memory, 2gb is plenty if you plan on installing Windows XP, and while 2gb is adequate for Vista but for heavy gaming 4gb would be beneficial. I say that as it seems that no operating system is installed, which is why the price seems so good at first glance!
Best regards

the main thing that it is now getting me is ive see a good laptop with dell, it would have a core 2 due 2.00 ghz processor, but im realy not sure how quick or good this would be, and if in the future a new processor upgrade was possible how difficult or possible would it be to upgrade the laptop processor?
You can clearly see your dealing with a complete amateur with all this.
Thanks for all the help though0 -
Hi, I'm just sending you an email now. I would amend the last post of yours to remove your email address now - spam bots can get hold of it quite easy and you'll get all sorts of junk emails!0

Not possible at all.
Forget laptops for gaming unless you have money to throw away.
The only thing upgradeable on a laptop is the RAM (memory) and the hard drive.0
