Hello,
Can I ask what may be a stupid question. I have very little spare time due to working overtime at two jobs. I can't watch favourite tv shows at the time they are on. I decided to purchase a cheap DVD player so that I can record programmes on the DVD recorder in the living room then watch them while cooking in the kitchen. This does not work! Apparently the discs need to be finalised before I can view them but then I can't record on them again. Does anyone have a cheap workable solution. I only paid £19 for the player for the kitchen. Thanks in advance to anyone who knows what they are talking about...unlike myself!

All DVDs have to be finalized so that they can be played on other players.
If you use DVD-R or DVD+R then they can only be used once.
If you used DVD-RW or DVD+RW (RW means re-writable) then once finalised and finished viewing on a DVD player, the disk can be re-used, by erasing content or reformatting in the DVD Recorder.
(- & + are two different DVD standards and use is determined by capabilities of DVD Recorder and Player)

I don't know if it's the same for all recorders (probably not), but the instructions for my Sony say:
+RW - finalised automatically, but may need to be finalised to be played on some equipment (?), can add recordings even after finalising
-RW - needs finalising to play on other equipment. To add more recordings, unfinalise.
So, look for an unfinalise option in your recorder's menus.Charlie0 -
Copying to dvd is not going to fit your requirments. As you have found out the ones you have are write only. You can get eraseable one's but can take an age to clean. Then you costs for dvd's will rise. Just watch tv while you have a cup of tea and fast forward the show.
How about a video sender? Or a PVR machine, or a sky+ box0 -
I don't think that these suggestions are a 'cheap workable solution'.totalsolutions wrote: »How about a video sender? Or a PVR machine, or a sky+ box
DVD+/-RW discs only cost around 50 pence.Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -
And it only takes a minute or less to format one on my recorder.Charlie0

Thank you for all the helpful replies. I shall be trying them out over weekend.:j I already have the right discs but wrongly thought that once finalised they couldn't be used again at all. DOH!!! Thanks for putting me right.:T0
