Looking for a Wedding Party Venue - Glasgow Area

Options
Hi,

I'm getting married next year and am looking to have the ceremony and party in the same venue in or around the Glasgow area (with approx 55 guests).

The venue does not have to be licenced for marriages as I'm currently living in Japan and doing all the legal stuff here so I will in fact already be married on paper (minus the ring and ceremony!).

I'd like somewhere nice that has a good backdrop for photos (prefererably lots of nature). Does anyone have any ideas that won't break the bank? Also - I'd prefer to have it somewhere where I can provide my own catering and bar - I'm working to a tight budget!

I live in the southside of glasgow, i got married in 2005 in Eastwood House, its just outside Glasgow, its run by East Renfrewshire Council. I had my ceremony and reception there. It has a beautiful staircase that you can have your ceremony at the bottom of in front of the fireplace, you can have your own bar and catering, but because its council run, you can also have the council cater and run the bar for you. This is what I did as it worked out the cheapest option for me. The gardens are beautiful with plenty of places for photos.
  • Thank you 2boysmum - I'll check it out!

Have you thought about the People's Palace at Glasgow Green? It can also be hired out for weddings :)

Eastwood house has some nice parts, well pretty much all of downstairs, and the grounds are lovely but its quite run down upstairs, in our opinion anyway. We went to see it in 2006 and the room they use for the evening do was a bit of a mess. The walls and ceiling werent in the best condition and in general just not very impressive.

Never been in the Peoples Palace personally but it looks lovely and is quite a popular wedding venue.

    What about Pollok House?

Relatively popular for these kinds of things, in the middle of a large park. Great photo possibilities on the front steps, and full of nature. It's also a gay-friendly venue (!).

Outside caterers are allowed, as are your own entertainments (I should know, I was the entertainment there once).

It's all in pristine order, too - the NTS are great. I'm not sure about costs, but I'm sure you could write an email and ask.

Thank you everyone for all of your suggestions/comments.

I was browsing the internet and discovered that Historic Scotland let out castles for wedding cermonies and receptions at VERY reasonable rates - I'm amazed as I thought a castle wedding would be totally out of my budget.

Of course Edinburgh Castle and Stirling Castle are out of my budget (starting at around 150 pounds per person - that covers venue hire, 4 course meal, drinks package, master of cermonies, event organiser, table dressings, piper etc - all the trimmings!). However there are a whole host of other castles that fit my budget nicely!

So much to organise - fun times!

I had my reception in the Burgh hall in Pollokshields which is a red sandstone building with turrets, stained glass, wood panelling. The main hall seats lots ( and is fab for dancing)and has a stage at one end for the band!

Place is run by a trust and was really reasonable to rent. Also it is at the entrance to the park, so perfect photo ops!

We got married in a hotel just round the corner from Stirling Castle and we got our wedding pics taken there. They only charged £100 and we were allowed 15 people in for that. Got some great pics too!

Have a update from Historic Scotand - it seems that if you wish to have your reception on one of their sites then you HAVE to use their designated caterers whom are EXTREMELY expensive!

    aaaarrrgggghhhhh! The search continues......
