Is Abbey's 5% cashback really just for tins of beans?

Hi,
Anyone know for sure if Abbey pay cashback on electricals through Tesco/Asda/Sainsburys? The article on here hints that they would, as the store would have a 5411 identifier code. I called and spoke to a CSA who told me it didn't apply to electricals... the trouble is she had an air of someone who was making it up as she went along so I'm not confident in either direction.
I'd only want the card for the 5% cashback on a TV and the short 3 month slow stooze so it's kind of crucial.
cheers.

It is for all purchases at stores using merchant category code 5411 . I used mine for almost all of my Christmas presents at both ASDA and Tesco and got the correct cashback. You get the cashback on each statement, which is nice. It also works on mobile 'phone top-ups.The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

What about supermarket petrol, please? Anyone tried it?

I was going to say no and that the T&C's specifically exclude petrol. However, the T&C's actually say ...
5. The cashback usually does not apply to supermarket petrol purchases or convenience stores attached to supermarket petrol outlets.
Please note the use of the word, "usually".
This suggests that it is possible that some supermarket filling stations might also use merchant category code 5411.
It is a pity that I've just had my Abbey statement, or else I would have put £5-worth of petrol on my Abbey card at ASDA, Cribbs Causeway, Bristol as an experiment. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

Thanks, Stephen. So it depends on the retailer's system. As I'm getting 4% with Capital One I'm not going to bother risking it.

I've just e-mailed ASDA and Sainsbury's, asking what code they use for petrol. Tesco's website seems purely for their online operation yet doesn't have an e-mail option, but I will try to contact them as well somehow. I'll keep you posted.
Update. I found a number for Tesco and it even had an option for fuel enquiries. A very pleasant Scottish lady is going to check and get back to me.The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.
