I brought a new phone b4 xmas, it was £20, but did what it needed to, just a spare for the house etc. set it up, never paid much attention to it.
But due to some harressing texts Im in the process of changing my number so thought ah I'll use the spare phone had £1.00 free credit , gave me a leaway to text few people to let them know whats going on.
Got the phone and there was 6 missed calls and messages left, rang the number it was a car dealership up North, (300 miles from where I live), after 2 phone calls to them saying Im not the person you are looking for.......they rang back, and tried to say Ive broke a contract for a mobility car etc etc, they backed down and told me the number was given to them by the mobility group, rang them ..... excuse suppose is fair enough data protection act... but they checked the records and this is the phone number that had been supplied by mr x and it was on more than one ocassion.
After 20 mins trying to say it cant be I have that number, purchased phone etc they will take account of that.
Rang Vodafone.......... the excuses they came out with were unbelievable.
its not there problem go back to the shop brought the phone from - but they boxed up the phone and the sim card
your have to buy a new sim card - why should I pay for one, the principal
madam you have to realise that its not a new number ...excuse me, new phone, new sim card had to pop out of holder - not new number - thought was loseing the plot
madam, we reuse our numbers, once a number has been cancelled we hold onto it for 6 months and reissue it...... nothing in their box or info leaflet to say you will have a number that is not new
think yourself luckly its only a car dealer thats ringing you.... could of been worse you know.....pulling my hair out
not our problem if the person is still giving out the number - appriciate that, but if there still giving out the number who else are they giving it to
spoke to supervisior - goodwill gesture we will give you a new number - great
when can I have it
your have to wait upto 8 weeks, why is it pigeon post
after another hold - you buy a new sim card and as a goodwill gesture were transfer the credit from the dodgy number free of charge.
Took the phone back to shop purchased it from, explained everything, had full refund, now have a virgin pay and go, Vodafone can stick it! x

we have 6 phones in the family, all on vodafone. For xmas we bought our youngest a new phone (he lives with his mum so a phone gives him access to his half-siblings and dad whenever HE wants. Rang Vodafone a few days later to transfer his number from his old phone to the new one. Sorry Madam can't do it, the old number is registered to someone else? !!!!!! he was using it the weekend before? After 3 phone calls and several attempts to work out what was going on (even getting them to agree that it had been used to ring certain numbers) I gave up and told them to leave the number as it was and I'd change the family scheme and give everyone the new number.
How can they recycle a phone number within a week? I'd tell them where to shove it but have 3 contracts that were recently renewed and live in a blackspot that only get vodafone coverage0 -
sorry but how many mobile phones/phone numbers have you had in your life? The first 5 digits are like a dialing code/area code and then the next 6 digits are the number per say so that's 1000000 per dialing code as such. Factor in how many 'dialing codes' and of course they're going to have to reuse the numbers at some point - they don't just make up new no.'s out of thin air.
'Oh we've run out of phone numbers lets make up the number squleven that'll be between 8 and 9 - best tell the manufacturers to add another key to the keypad'0 -

I had my one pay and go number for 10 yrs, I have only had to change it because of harressing texts.
Surely the person should of been informed by a company that the number may have previuosly been used,
I know that BT do that but they have a minimum of 2 years before the number is reused, vodafone said 6 maybe 9 mths.
 Turn the situation around, can you image if it was a 10 yr old child that was given the phone and it was not merely a garage ringing but some pervert, bet that would be a diifferent tune.xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
I thought it was common knowlege that numbers are reused? There are many things in life that will catch your eye, only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those.0

Anyone that gives a ten year old child a phone is a moron anyway. Also think of the logic of what you've said, how is some pervert meant to know who has which phone number and know that it's been given to a kid. They're not so the pervert in your example must just be sitting ringing random numbers which he can do regardless of whether numbers are recycled or not
You knew that BT do it so you should maybe have considered mobile companies do it also, especially since people change mobiles so frequently. Having the same number for 10 years is not the norm.Bought, not Brought0 -

so any parent that gives a child a phone be thata 10yr old or not, is a moron, what planet are you on!!!!!!!
children have phones for different reasons, not to show off with, my daughter has one of my old phones with a sim card in it, that was her granddads old number, (its in my room, but it teaches her about phones)
I MUST BE A MORON......... WHAT THE HECK AM I DOING STUDYINGAT UNIVERSITY
Also think of the logic of what you've said, how is some pervert meant to know who has which phone number and know that it's been given to a kid.
THAT WAS A GENERAL COMMENT THAT IF THE PERSON WHO HAD THE NUMBER B4 HAND IS STILL GIVING IT OUT, THEY COULD BE GIVING IT TO ALL AND SUNDRY.
They're not so the pervert in your example must just be sitting ringing random numbers which he can do regardless of whether numbers are recycled or not
a pervert may ring randon numbers, but then I dont know from experience on that? do you/
You knew that BT YES WHICH WE ONLY FOUND OUT BY ACCIDENT, AS WE WERE GETTING CALLS FROM A DEBT COLLECTION AGENCY FOR THE PREVIUOS HOLDER, HAD I OF NOT MADE ENQUIRIES I WOULD NOT OF KNOWN do it so you should maybe have considered mobile companies do it also, especially since people change mobiles so frequently.
SOME PEOPLE KEEP NUMBERS FOR A WHILE
Having the same number for 10 years is not the norm. SO IM NOT NORMAL
Yes I had my number for 10years, that was my choice but I upgraded the phone, if you went and asked 100 random people do you know the mobilenumber you have got may of been previuosly owned bysomeone else, Idoubt 100 would agree with that.
My point of my original post was to highlight the situation and warn others that thismay happen to them, and howpoor the customer service was with Vodafone.xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
This happened to me when I was dialling my mums pay as you go as she only kept it for emergencies. So I ended up dialling some young girl. She called me back wondering who I was so I explained it to her as I worked out that my mum's number had been recycled.
The girl was a bit confused. Luckily, I used to work for a mobile phone company 8 years ago so I knew what had happened since I knew my mums phone and sim were at home.
They have to put this stuff in the T&C's and then Ofcom will state that they have the right to do it in their legislation.
It is inconvenient when you get a call like that, but it's not the end of the world and just needs explaining to the (also baffled) person on the other end.
I can see your point however the sales people could tell you this. Also, if the sales company was not Vodafone themselves it's not the networks error if external sales companies are not informing customers. I think you would find that all these companies would consider that they have done all they need to since it's in the T&C's which they advise you to read after purchase.
Remember, they also take all your credit as well if you leave any on when it gets recycled. So, factor that part in and wonder why Vodafone do it sooner than others.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -

That's as may be but your point was so weak that you had to create some !!!!!!/pervert image to try and suggest this matter is much more serious than it actually is.
Presumably if your daughter has a phone that stays in your room then when some random number rings it's unlikely you'll let her answer.
What exactly is there to learn about mobile phones that someone too young to require one needs to know that they can't learn in the space of 5 minutes once they're older and actually require a phone?
You've blown the whole thing out of proportion,
"Hello John"
"This isn't John's number"
"He gave me this number"
"Well He gave you the wrong number, Goodbye"
"Goodbye"
hardly time to start crying
As for going to University, I went also, the place was full of morons. I don't know "WHAT THE HECK YOU ARE DOING STUDYINGAT UNIVERSITY" but probably getting a Psychology degree.
In any event it's probably in your T + C'sBought, not Brought0
