Grrrrr @Argos

Can anyone help me with this dilema and tell me where i stand.

At the end of November i brought a mobile phone from Argos as a christmas present.

A few weeks ago the screen went blank so it cant be seen, which is obviously no good as you cant see who is calling or use menus etc.

Today i phoned Argos customer services and asked where i stood as i dont have a reciept. As i paid by Credit Card she was able to check the system and told em the exact date, how much i spent at what till number and what my transaction number was. She told em to take it to the store and i will get it repaired or exchanged.

I went there today and they dont have any in stock and aren't getting any in for a while so they told me to go and choose another one. I asked for them to confirm the amount i had spent so i knew what kind of phone i could pick.

They told me as i dont have a reciept i have to have a phone at the current sale value which is £66, half the price of what i paid. They also told me they have no record of me buying it and CS should never of given me that info earlier!

So what do i do? I dont want a lower value phone, i want either a replacement ( which they dont know when they will have any in) or a differnt phone of the same value. They did offer to get it repaired but it will take over 2 weeks and my partner needs the phone for work etc.

You have gone past the point in time where you can get a full refund, although of course you're entitled to repair or replacement.

I think, therefore, you can expect a direct replacement, or an alternative at the *current* price of the direct replacement. That seems fair to me. The price you paid 7 months ago is irrelevant now.

If you don't want a lower-priced phone (which would be equivalent not lower value, incidentally), take the repair but insist on a temporary replacement.
  • I think i will go back and speak to someone else and see what they say, the girl today was a bit clueless, and if i can get a temporary phone while they try and fix mine.

Its just annoying as if they cant fix it, there isn't an equivalent phone to mine, not for £60 anyway.

do any other stores in or around your area have your phone in stock? if so, you could go get a replacement

If not, as you say you should just get your phone repaired-my friend had a phone repaired through argos and the turn-around time wasnt too bad.

Just make sure your contacts are stored to your sim and not the phone's memory- you keep hold of your sim whilst the hpone is being repaired. If you have an old/borrowed phone to use it shouldnt be to inconvenient for you.
  • Nope, no other stores have them in store. I think they must be getting rid of them as the phone isn't in the catalogue anymore either.

Thats another problem, a lot of the stuff is saved to the phone and we can change it as we cant see the screen!

Nevermind, will try for the repair i think and hope they are quicker than they say.

  • fyi check ur warranty repair conditions - prob says data will be lost. plus make sure u know u have not caused damage - they will bill u for just examining the phone if its not covered by warranty. damaged screens are usually blamed on misuse (not that i am accusing u of course)
    Sense is not common.

Cant you phone their customer services dept again and ask them to send you confirmation of the price you paid? After all, if it's on their system they should be able to provide a printout for you to take to the store...

I just pop in now and then.... :)
