Barclaycard (Initial) Promotional Rates?

Hi MSE'ers

Barclaycard were kind enough to accept me for the Initial card.

I rang them to BT from my Cap1 (classic/£200 deposit). Barclaycard said it was on the promotional rate of 6.?%.

My question is: is this normal and do Barclaycard do this often for Initial cardholders.

I was pleasantly impressed :T

yes its a common thing with barclaycard. sadly they dont include the initial barclaycard in their 0% for ages offer when you open it. but they do offer you the standard existing balance transfer offer which is currently 6.9% - has been knownto go up and was down as far as 2.9% last year

Thanks for reply - appreciated :)

I rang them back and checked on it - was confirmed so I BT'd a store card also but you can have a max of 75% of your credit limit used on BT's.

Obviously it's very unwise to now use the card for purchases and cash until the BT is paid or the purchases and or cash transactions get paid after any promotional BT's.

Do you have to pay a 2% balance transfer fee to get the 6.9% rate? (I am trying to decide whether this would be better for my boyfriend rather than capitol ones card.)

For me they just requested my p60 and one (latest) wage slip.
I guess if you put you had a high income and or self employed they could find it questionable.

    @ skye:
I just checked the online control panel at Barclaycard and no notice of a BT fee.
If you call them just ask and if all sounds good you can continue with the BT.

I would recommend the Barclaycard (Initial) over the Capitalone (Classic) anyday!
Reason being is Barclaycard offer lower interest, they offered me 6 times more credit limit than Capitalone plus Barclaycard have promotions eg: this 6.9% BT.

If Capitalone is all you can get then it's OK but I'd move as quick as I could to another provider but I'd try Barclaycard first tbh - I wish I had done.
