Mature Student help needed URGENT !!!

Hi, my sister is wanting to go to uni this september and has got an unconditional offer, lucky her. The problem is money, as per.
She is 26 and is living with her boyfriend at the moment. She earns about £10,000 a year, and he earns about £34,000 a year. When she goes to uni he will not support her, i dont know why, and they will not be living with each other whilst she is there. Anyway, she contacted the Student Support Direct and they said she is not entitled to anything. But surely if they are not going to be living with each other then she should get full whack! I think that when she phoned up the person at SSD thought they would be living with each other, but as they will not be does this affect the claim?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, it is urgent for some advice as 1st of July is very close.
Thanks in advance

As they are not married, and will not be living with him, there is no need to let them know about him. I am sure this will affect the claim and she will get help.:starmod: :staradmin :starmod:I gave up jogging for my health when my thighs kept rubbing together and setting fire to my knickers:starmod: :staradmin :starmod:0

they are both on the electorol roll together at the same residence, but surely if they are not going to be living with each other, i should not matter, i can see this goin belly up.0

dont worry overly about the 1st July deadline is the first thing. The only significance is that they dont guarantee to make the first payment by the start of term, they wont be too far behind though.
As far as I am aware the fact that your sister has a boyfriend who lives in a seperate property is of no relevance to the lea.
EDIT - Re the above line, I have just re-read the post. Does she live with him as her permanent address? If she does the situation is different.
She is Over 25 so wil be classed as independant for the sake of LEA Assessment.
Depending on circumstances she will receive a full student loan and full tuition fee support. There are also one or two other bits and bobs she might be entitled to such as the access to learning fund once she arrives at uni.
Wish her the best of luck from me, its hard being a mature student but very enjoyable.0 -
im a mature student, well in body anyways... Your sis isnt registered at his addy there should be no probs. But if she lives there & is registered there during holidays etc then she could be nobbled. Dont give up, accept the offer & you can access all kinds of information once there, think of this one, if she started uni regisitered living with him & they split up, she wont half kick herself for not going...
grab the chance & i hope it works out.

she is on the electoral roll and at the moment lives permanently with him, the problem she has is that he earned a significant amount on top of his basic rate due to overtime etc. I feel !!!! for him cos he just wanted a nice house for my sis to live in and it looks like he cocked it up, bless him, the LEA are of no help cos they did not even know what a PN1 form was. I dont know, well soon see what happens. What is the access to learning fund like, how easy is it to get funding?
thanks for all your help so far0 -
As far as I am aware, it is husbands and wifes that are classed like this, they cannot seriously expect a boyf to pay for her uni funding. She should claim on her own grounds, independent - i.e will have no income during uni, and has supported herself over the last x amount of years.
When I first started uni, I was 21, and classed as independent as I had worked full time for over 3 years and could prove it, therefore parents earnings were not taken into account when applying for Student Loan and my own earnings were, which during Uni meant no income - it is not the salary before uni. Even so, she could still apply by herself with the refuse to declare partner/parent earnings, which last time I checked was £2900 anyway. Getting the max amount is to declare parents/partners earnings, but only if they earn under a certain amount.
Id advise to apply on her own, and dont even say anything about him, she should get the max plus tuition support. Wish her luck from us all too!
