After 7 months we have exchanged!!!

The title says it all really. :D Initial offers were put in on 1st July last year. Every problem that we could have had we did in fact have! However we got the call today to say exchange has happened, and we complete on 1st feb so by then it will actually be exactly 8 months from the offer.
Please don't think i posted this to gloat but i am just so relieved and can honestly say that i will not be moving again for at least 15 years!
I wish everyone who is still awaiting their move a speedy outcome.

congratulations specsappeal and hope you love your new house
  • Well done - can i ask why it took so long, your nerves must be in shreds?
  • hi select, well i'll start at the beginning - lol
    1: chain collapsed
2 FTB had trouble getting mortgage offer
3 3rd in chain had to go to court to get a charge removed from their property.
4 ftb and top of chain had a 10 day argument about an exchange date
    5 ftb went on holiday
6 my buyers mortgage offer expired
    7 my offer then expired
8 out of the blue EXCHANGE :rotfl:

all in all a stressful time but by christmas i had to laugh at every new hiccup otherwise i would have been a nervous wreck.
  • we had out chain collapse(horrid) but have now accepted an offer from a ftb and we will be living in a caravan for a while as we build our own so hopefully it will go a little quicker

Well done. It's a nightmare isn't it because until exchange you can't even think the house might have really sold!

Good luck with the self build. I fancy that (would get it done for me) because I want/need a 1-2 bed detached house and there aren't many of those about!
  • funnily enough thats what we have "hopefully" sold - a 2 bed detached.

we are getting the work done by putting it out to tender as in the current market I am hoping some builders might be glad of work? however until the papers are signed nothings for sure - i have never done this house buying-selling thing before and its horribly stressful on both sides - we have lived here for 20yrs so it will be a bit of a wrench.

Good luck specs & I hope that in a matter of weeks I can also report moving in after around 8 months of house selling & buying stress.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
    Spring begins on 21st March.
  • Bet you are so relieved. We exchanged on Friday after putting our offer in in September, we had a few problems in our chain too with one of the properties sale collapsing but it has all worked out ok in the end and we have a completion date of tomorrow. So excited as it is our first house. :j I really can't wait until tomorrow now!

Good luck to everyone else in the process of buying and selling.
Old enough to know better, too young to care! :p

You could almost make a baby in all that time.
