My DVD Rom is playing up it won't read certain DVD's although they play okay on an other computer, I also have a cd writer.
I want to put in a DVD writer, which one of the above is best/easiest to replace, can the other one be left connected?
I replaced the cd writer a couple of years ago swapping the cables like for like, will the new DVD writer have a similar wiring setup?
thanks

If the CD writer is more recent then replace the DVD ROM. They should be equally easy to replace, unless you are unlucky with the case layout - occasionally one slot is harder to get at than the other.
Provided you get one with the older IDE interface (not the more recent SATA) the cabling should be identical. Just remember to change the MASTER/SLAVE/CS jumpers on the new one to match the one you're taking out.0 -
if youre sure it wont play certain dvds then remove it completely and install the new dvd writer.
wiring is just like for like. same as the cd writer.
just make sure the little jumper on the back, is the same as the old unit.
(usually marked,, Master or Slave).Get some gorm.0 -

nope no conflict dont worry about that just replace as you just been told and all will be ok.. if you are on xp then it should also be self identified too ...easy peasy isnt it or at least thats what you will be saying after you done it.:hello: Lets all save a £ or two, lets all earn a £ or two, and lets all enjoy spending that £ or two wisely.
