Gift for a new mum/new baby

Hi,
My friend is likely to give birth in the next week (a lot earlier than we all expected so I'm not as disorganised as I look) and I am looking for an unusual gift for her. I would have loved to send her one of the baby bouquets that I have found on the net http://www.babygiftgallery.co.uk/baby-gifts/the-flower-stork-baby-bouquet.htm
but someone else has already got her one. I was thinking of a set of IOUs such as a night babysitting, a night out to get her away from the house etc but I would really like to get her a gift as well. She is unbelievably prepared (luckily) and I think she has got everything she could need, so I would like to buy her something unusual.:D

How about a keepsake box, with the baby's name, weight & date of birth on?
Also, when you do your IOU's, add one for an hour's ironing & one for an hour's cleaning!0 -
I recently presented a new mummy with a home made basket. I lined it with a baby blanket and put inside wet wipes, baby shampoo, cotton wool, cotton buds, bootees. mittens and all little things like that. Then around the edge i placed a bottle of "stress relief" radox, candles, miniature bottle wine, small box chocs etc. Just left out the daddy as he would be babysitting whilst mummy chilled out in bath.
All things i had collected over the weeks so the final cost was not noticable0 -

I survived the M8 snowjam 6/12/10 - 17 hrs to get home :snow_grin

As a mum and someone who is currently pregnant i have been trying to think about what i would like. I think not everything has to be bought and just someone to come round and take the ironing or come round for an adult conversation would be top of my list. If you physically want to buy something for me i would love a next voucher for when i want to buy some new clothes for me and some chocolates to indulge myself a little first.now mum of 4!!!0

A few random thoughts - How about a pretty and cosy dressing gown for when your friend is up during the night feeding. It's not easy hauling yourself out of bed at any time but even harder at this time of year when it is cold and dark. There are some lovely dressing gowns in the sales at the moment. There are a couple on the La Senza website in the sale which look nice and snuggly but I'm sure you could find a lovely one anywhere.
Big bars of yummy chocolate are a must to keep her going! Your vouchers sound a perfect idea and will be the best present of all - would have really appreciated something like that. I agree with 3kidsnomoney - a voucher to treat herself to something to wear which isn't maternity would be a real treat!
Your friend is very lucky to have you around.0
