I have finally decided to treat myself to a new computer.
I have a number of programs installed on my old pc which I would like to install on my new computer.
Is there a way of transferring the programs to my new pc without having to install them all again.
I do have a 500 GB external hard drive which I could use to back the programs to.
Thanks in anticipation.

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not sure!

You can clone the entire system, using something like Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image. But that'll only work for the entire system, including operating system. But if you want to move a few apps across to a new / different PC this won't work. You really need to install a fresh from the original CDs/DVDs the software came on, as moving software is rarely straightforward, and 99% of the time it's impossible as software applications install libraries, supporting files and all sorts of registry entries all over the place.0

Thanks isofa for the prompt reply.
I have my itunes library installed on my old pc, does this mean that I will have to install itunes again and load all my cd's back in to it, a job which took me the best part of the week I hasten to add.I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not sure!0 -
No that's much easier. Just locate where your library is stored (check with the preferences in iTunes) but it's usually:
C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music
Or just direct from My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music
and copy that entire ITunes Music folder over, into the same place on the new PC, then ensure the new PCs iTunes knows where the folder is, and it should pickup all the tracks.0 -

Thanks again isofa, that's a relief, I thought that I may have to install it all again.
