Before you do anything check to see if your motherboard can take a faster processor.Winnings

Have you tried runnign the game? From what you have written it sounds like you have a Core 2 Duo processor, a 1.86Ghz C2D should be capable of playing any game that requires a 2Ghz processor. Your Graphics card is far more likely to be an issue than the CPU anyway.

Doesn't each core take on half the job so it's effectively running at twice the advertised speed?Winnings

Essentially yes, but only if the software is written to take advantage of multiple cores. Most games aren't. However modern C2D processors are more efficient than older pentiums anyway. I happily play Company of Heroes on a machien with a C2D clocked at 1.8 Ghz yet according to the box it needs a 2Ghz Pentium IV processor or equivalent. So obviously in terms of performance my 1.8Ghz C2D is at least as good as a 2Ghz Pentuium IV.
Have a look at this chart for a comparison of performance, it compares my CPU (E4300) with a P4 2.8 Ghz ( I couldn't find a 2Ghz one on there)

Thinking about it my son has a 1.8 dual core & runs Crysis quite happily on it which for is 2.?Ghz Pentium 4, he also has one of the best GeForce cards about which helps too.Winnings

A good graphics card is essential if you want to play modern games at decent resolutions. The processor isn't usually a limiting factor so long as it meets the minimum requirements. I suspect the OP's processor comfortably exceeds the minimum for whatever game it is.It's my problem, it's my problem

Will we ever find out though?
