this sounds like a great thing to do as it sounds so flexible! anyone got an ideaof how old you have to be?
  • Over 18 for insurance purposes.

Most of our drivers are in their late 30s through to their 60s.

We do get young lads starting but they usually get sick of weekend working and their souped up Fiestas smelling of pizza!

I guess it all depends on how good your manager/franchisee is, but Domino's do emphasise flexibility around your main job.

just wondering, would i be able to do this with a scooter & provisional licence (once i've done my cbt) or do you still have to have a full licence?
  • None of the stores in our franchise use scooters.

I know the ones in London do.

  • Hi,

I worked for Pizza Hut for about five years, off and on. It's pretty flexible, and usually a pretty good place to work, with a good mix of people (most of the people I worked with were foreigners on student visas, who I always found really interesting to talk to). I started out driving a car, which used to earn 60p per drop (less than Dominos), and then in later days, when I didn't have a car, I did quite a lot of work instore, and used a moped to make deliveries. On the mopeds, you refuel using the store's petrol card, so there's no petrol allowance per drop.

I'm pretty sure that most, if not all, Pizza Huts have a fleet of mopeds, and can arrange your CBT for you. They take the money from this out of your wages over a number of weeks though, so you don't get the CBT for free, although it is convenient to have them arrange it for you. Having said that, I don't think they ever got around to charging me for mine, so it's all good!

They also provide fairly comprehensive protective gear, except for boots. Sometimes though, the gear is ill-fitting, or there's a shortage, so it's good to have your own (fine for me, as I'm a biker, but possibly a problem for others). I don't know what Dominos are like for providing gear, but as there was a Dominos next to our Pizza Hut, I did notice that they at least provide a jacket and helmet. Their mopeds were a lot more powerful than ours too. Pizza Hut mopeds are limited to 30mph, which can be a pain when you're riding down a major road.

All in all, it's not a bad thing to do as a second job if you're in need of the money. I enjoyed my time there well enough. Better with a car than a moped though, for the sake of comfort, although a moped is better during rush hour. There's no reason you can't do the CBT and then use both.

Hope that helps, and I'll try to answer any questions if anybody has any. Really though, it's not a hard job to get into, and the best thing is just to leap in and see how you like it!

The stores usually have posters up or just go in and ask.

By the nature of the job there's usually regular turnover of staff.

If your using your own car do you have to pay extra insurance for 'business' use??

I always wondered if the wear and tear on the car and the petrol cost would eat up any money you made. As well as you guys saying its your 2nd job, don't you get hit up for like 40% tax?
  • The Dominos near me has a big poster up requesting people for all positions. :D

i worked for the local take away, there they paid you £20 per night this is to cover petrol. plus you get all the deliver money which was either £1, £1.50,
£2 or £2.50 depending on how far you travel. The money was really good but it was hard doing it and working all day, plus you have to put up with all the drunks at the end of the night.

    any question please ask!
