Today i received a letter from the HSBC, titled "Your Overdraft Facility has been reviewed"
Having had an overdraft facility for several years which was given to me by the HSBC, the letter stated that the bank has now decided to review my overdraft Facility,
(maybe they want to increase my overdraft i thought) ha ra ha ra ha ra :j
It said "We have reviewed this and as a result (wait for it), I am pleased to offer you, the same as before"
Your new overdraft will come into force next month, and we will be charging you £25 for this overdraft review
What a chuddy bleak

Overdrafts have had annual review dates for over a decade, possibly longer. I remember dealing with annual reviews at Lloyds back in the early 90s. However, for the vast majority you just rolled them over for another year and no-one was any the wiser. It appears that HSBC is now charging for this. Expect more like this to come.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Thanks to all these people reclaiming bank charges and removing a regular source of income for the banks.

I have had the same letter. It too says no change. It says there will be no charge for this unless I wish to change the amount or have a further review before the nest 12 months is up.
Did you read the letter correctly or do you have a questionable history.0 -
Sounds like HSBC are doing something called a 'test and learn'They are offering the facility for free to some customers and charging others. They will then monitor the amount of complaints and account closures and decide which customers they can get away with charging a fee too and which group will kick up a fuss.Either that, or as mentioned on another threat they are testing this 'fee' as a way of recovering the lost income from unauthorised overdraft charges. By saying they are providing with a 'review service' they can argue it is not a penalty fee in any way and that giving you a 'temporary' additional overdraft above your current limit is something that they can vilidly charge a fee for.R.Smile
, it makes people wonder what you have been up to.0 -
Is this charge listed in your original bank account terms and conditions as a charge?0

had the same letter from hsbc ,no raise in overdraft just new terms and a £25. charge which will b revised every year, hope it doesnt mean a £25.00 charge every year, will be closing my account with them soon and my childrens accounts had enough of hsbc to last a lifetime.0

Why don't you guys just write to them demanding the refund or threatening to move bank.
It seems pretty unfair to me. None of you asked for any change in over draft and NO change was actually provided. Is £25 a reasonable charge to make for this? I don't think so. There are plenty of other banks out there.Amo L'Italia0 -

Good on ya! Glad you are not just sitting back and accepting it. I'm with HSBC and also have a current account/ISA with halifax. Halifax have been really good to me, if you fancy checking them out.
Should be really easy switching too, as they all offer the managed changeovers, so they do all the direct debits, and transfer stuff.Amo L'Italia0
