Hi, can anyone help please?

Hiya, just after some cc advice from the experts!
my partner has a hsbc credit card (apr 15.9%) with a debt of around £800 on it. He also has a hsbc overdraft with a debt of around £2000 at around 18%. He has just applied for a 0% balance transfer card but has not heard from them yet. I have just received a mbna cc with 0% on BT for 12 months with 1000 limit.

firstly I read the article and it says to ring up the cc provider and ask to reduce the rat of interest. Which number should he ring, just the normal cc helpline number? does he just ask for a lower rate of interest and say otherwise he is moving his debt?

after trying that what are the next steps he can take? I guess somehow doing a SBT into his account would be best to get rid of the 18% interest rate? I'm a bit confused about SBT and BT. would I be able to do a SBT into his account from my card? any help appreciated!
November £10 a day challenge. Im starting early- 66p so far!
