recently got one fitting changed in the bathroom into 4 downlights
first day, putting any other upstairs light on at the same time, blew the fuse
electrician came out, said put a bigger fuse in, did so, and changed the bulbs to 35 watt from 50watt, so a total decrease of 60 watts
then, had them on today, tried all lights on together, all working well, went up for a bath, just the bathroom downlighters on, and in the middle of my bath, the fuse goes again
any ideas? ill defo be getting the professionals bt would like opinions on what it could be, the house is only 12 yrs old. the original fuse was 3A and the second one to go was a 5A

5 amps at 240volts should be OK for 1200 watts.
You've got 140 watts!!
There is a short circuit in your wiring. Please don't get the same electician back, the fault needs to be found by someone who knows what he's doing before you get killed!
Can you tell me exactly where the spotlights are in relation to the bath and if they are IP44 rated (Suitable for zones 1 to 3 for the bathroom). If you still have the packaging this should tell you.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -
If cable size etc are all correct a normal lighting circuit as a guide should not generally exceed 1000 watts e.g. 10 x 100 watt = 1000, so ten 100 watt bulbs would be the max, 20 x 50 watt and so on..... You should add up the number of lights (watts on each bulb) on the circuit that has MCB tripped to see if theses exceed that you may be able to up rate the fuse further if the cable etc is large enough. If there is a short etc it would be unusual for the lights to not trip when they are first switched on allthough it could be a loose bad connection etc normally bathroom lights would not be on a circuit on there own.... You may also want to check extractor if there is one in the bathroom0
