Doorbell Problems!

Can anyone help with this one.
I have a traditional door bell-wire go from button into box above door and the box uses 4xC Batteries. Originally we had a black plastic bell push on front of door but when we changed the door we decided we would like a brass one. We bought this from B+Q for approximatley £9. Ever since we switched the batteries run out after 2 weeks! Whereas before we never had to change them.
What do we need to do?
1) Buy a new bell push( won't the same thing happen again?)
2) Buy a brand new box and bell push?

Hmm - having on a hunch had a quick squizz at the B&Q website there is a brass bell push on there at £9.98 which features a backlight and is noted transformer only. I wonder if you've got this one - the backlight will be on 24/7 and will drain the batteries very quickly. If so the solution is to get one of the similar looking alternatives without the light behind.
If its not that then I wonder if the contacts within it have got bent slightly too close and are making a weak connection - not enough to ring the bell but enough to drain a little power from the battery. You may be able to get inside and straighten them out a bit so they don't touch or a new one may not have the same problem.Adventure before Dementia!0 -
If your bell pust has a backlight, just take the bulb out.
As stated above, this will drain the batteries very quickly.
Alternatively, fit a transformer. Never need to replace batteries ever again.0 -
Thanks for your help guys. This is the £9.98 one and there is a back light-I'll try and remove the bulb0
