Hi everyone,
I hope you're all okay!!
I have a problem with HSBC and would really appreciate your advice!
I made a payment to my HSBC credit card 24th December 2007 using the machine where you pop your pay slip and cash in the envelope and into the machine! The queues were huge so this seemed the easiest way!
Then 2nd January 2008 I had a call from HSBC asking for me to make a payment. I told them I had at the branch machine on the 24th. They said it would probably take 5 working days to clear so I will be charged a late payment fee
On the 7th January I checked my statement and the payment still hadn't cleared so I called HSBC and was asked for the acknowledment number and told this will help them find my payment.
I've just called them again as it still hasn't cleared and they've said they are looking into it but it will take some time. When I asked for a timescale all I kept getting was 'it will take some time'
I'm now worried as I've made my January payment but my December one is still missing. Will I get charged? Surely it shouldn't take this long if they have the acknowledgement number??
Thanks in advance

I remember Decmber being terrible for cheques- you put it in in the 24th. The ones in the machine don't get processed until the next working daywhich would have been the 27th, takes about 5 working days to clear a cheque, so there's the 28th then the 29th and 30th or a weekend, the 31st and 1st are bank holidays so the second of jan is day 2 4th of jan is day 4 the another weekend so the 7th is probably the very earliest that it would clear- if the cheque went through- did you fill out the payment slip properly etc
ooops- just realised you said you paid by cash- they are usually processed the next working day (in my experience at rbs anyway) and there are usually notices explaining how long it takes anyway.
Was the paying in slip filled out properly?0 -
Thanks for your reply 98jdougl!!
I filled out the slip on the bottom of my credit card statement and popped this in the envelope with my £90!
