  • Aldi rocks :j . Have lots of fruit and veg on offer at 39p...got 6 kiwi, bag of pears, cucmber, pack of 6 tomatoes. They have lovely continental hams and great value on the wines  and beers. Oooohhhh so many good things. Lidl also has some great bargains....72 weetabix for £2.90 (or around that price) :j and yummy ocean spray cranberry juice BOGOF at £1.09 :money: . Also did Iceland, 5 tins of Heinz soup for £2, 18 penguins for £1 and 5 fruit corners for £1.50. :D Love a bargain xxxx

I always regarded Aldi as being better than Lidl, but both good for certain products. Recently though, Lidl has really picked up with a much wider selection. My advice is try both and "cherry-pick" the products you like if you can.
  • Italiastar, I totally agree that Lidl has got better. I always preferred Aldi but now I tend to call in both for certain items as I have to pass Lidl to get to Aldi anyway. My freind in Germany always raved about Lidl, she does loads of shopping there but she still brings me the bits I like and still forgets I can get them myself now anyway bless her. xxx
  • I find Aldi is good for some of their offers, however the shopping experience is awful. The stores are boring and drab, but worst of all are the staff. They seem to just want to get you out as soon as possible at the checkout and very rarely say 'please' or 'thankyou' when you hand the money over. Also the awful system where they turn your trolley around and drop your shopping straight into it is a pain, as you then have to bag it all up out of the trolley.

I only go there for a crate of apple juice now.
  • OK, I have to admit, when I lived in England, I always thought of Aldi, Lidl etc as scabby and stuff. However, after living in Germany for 6months you realise that it is actually normal people shopping in these shops. Now we live in Spain, we shop for those "home treats" that I became accustomed to in Germany, in Lidl. There is also an Aldi, but it is a real pain to get into at the moment due to roadworks.
However, we have found on the whole Carrefour to be slightly cheaper than Lidl when doing our big shopping. Probably because I get fooled into buying the items in the baskets in the middle of the shop....:embarasse

jaycee - I used to work for a German company. German visitors from our parent company were surprised to find we considered these shops as down market & even more surprised that we all loved IKEA!

Aldi are great. Although I wouldn't use them for a full weeks shop due to lack of product range what they do have s good products are reasonable price

FWIW I've always found the exact opposite!
