Broken appliance... manufacturer or retailer?

Hi
We purchased a dehumidifier about 13 months ago from Comet. It has just stopped working. We noticed that the manufacturer provides a 1st year parts & labour guarantee and a 2nd year parts guarantee. My question is should i pursue this through the retailer under the Sale of Good act (expecting free repair / replacement etc...) or should i be going to the manufacturer where i assume they will repair but i will have to pay labour...? What good is a parts only guarantee when you have to pay out on the labour when it should be a free repair from the retailer? Am i missing something.
Thanks
Bin

Hello and welcome to the forum
If i was you, the first thing to do it contact Comet and ask them, if they wont do anything then contact the manufacturer.
You have nothing to lose contact either way to be honnest
Out of interest, what make and price is it?0 -
Hi, Thanks for the welcome.
Think your right with the course of action - i found some website that was basically saying the manufacturers guarantee is for when the shop you purchased from has gone out of business, you didn't buy the product, or if the store is being too much of a pain.
Just for the record the dehumidifier in question is a Delonghi DEM10 priced at £99 from Comet. Was very happy with it until it stopped!0 -
I would say Comet - but as it was only £99 then I think you may have a problem if you had to take it further - So your best bet may well be the manufacturer!0

I would say go to Comet - they may well honour the 12 month guarantee even though you are just out of it. It's worth a try. My DH would, for good customers ....... a lot of people appreciate their local small businesses for reasons like this and also they can usually contact them when places like Comet are closed. They also like not having to wait WEEKS for a repair and not talking to robots and ansafones!
Oh yeah, then there's other things like unpacking the appliance (free) and taking all the packaging away (free) and not just driving off and leaving the appliance on the doorstep when the customer forgets to tell you that they live on the second floor!!
Sorry for the rant Rbinny - I have another thread going! I really do hope you get sorted. Dehumidifiers are great aren't they, when they work?0
