I had started reading from the beginning of the thread, then skimmed some pages and when I did not find the answer I started reading from the end and worked backwards.
Thank you Jasonwatkins and darlo_fan for giving me some pointers. I don't mind reading but I could did not have time to read through all the posts to find the answers.

Sarah, how many tracks are you at?

    About 1200 I think.

Also, I think I've only ever given a 10 once and that was ages ago. Got smashed for it too.

When I was on five stars I only had 1-9 in my range. Never give 0 either.

what do you rate covers then, or haven't you had any ?

TBH I haven't had any for ages and ages. I did rate one at 0 once and lost about 5%. Was not impressed. I think I'd just refresh now if one came up.

As I do slicethepie I will come across lots of hiphop/rap and they do seem to make up quite a large section on there, I would like to become more knowledgeable on that kind of music. It would be unfair to the artists concerned to get a scout rate him who did not understand anything about his work. In order to give fair credit when it is due what would make a good hiphop/rap song?

Yeah JUlie, I'm stuck on those ones. You can go and play in the Gibson room til someone fixes it.

JASON? Can you do some fixing please?!

This isnt easy to quantify, as hip hop/rap has a lot more scope for variance in style than say country / blues / jazz / rock (IMHO)

the best way to approach it is that you try to review as you think fans of the genre would. Try to think about what is successful in the charts, and work out why you think that is, then apply that to the track you are listening to and rate accordingly.

Obviously its a little deeper than that, but generally it boils down to your normal exposure of the genre, if you dont listen to it, and hardly ever hear it you arent going to do wither yourself or the artist any good.

I'm lucky, as hip hop is generally where my musical taste lay, however STP certainly tests my limits on occasion :)
